Sunderland Juniors 12/12/07
Well I have just finished performing at a school show in Sunderland and what a pleasure it was. There were 120 kids ranging from 6-11 years old, and every single one of them joined in and had fun. Being a North East Magician, its great to do shows in the local schools and Sunderland High School Juniors is fantastic.
The great thing was that the Head Master Clive Bulmer and some of the staff sat and enjoyed the show with the children which is something that I always try to promote at my shows. There is sometimes the misconception among adults and parents that the magician is a glorified babysitter and this is not the case. Adults should always be on hand, partly in case there are really young children that need to be looked after, but more importantly because they will enjoy the show as well and there is nothing worse than adults chatting while the kids are trying to enjoy the show,
Happily this was not the case today and I had a great time!!
Welcome to my first blog 25/11/07
Well, Christmas is almost upon us and being a Children's entertainer in the North East I am bracing myself for the month ahead. I know its Christmas because the Fenwicks Christmas windows are in full swing. Is it me or do they go up earlier each year?
I am all over the North East in December doing both Kids Shows and Adult Parties. Most of the events are in Newcastle, but I'm also doing a lot of kids magic shows in Sunderland and Durham this year.
As well as performing at my regular venue "The Lotus Garden" in Hartlepool, the weekend saw me at a private party in Apartment in Newcastle where I was working with some of Paul James' musicians. The Paul James Band get so busy at this time of year that Paul has to provide a second band to cover the enquiries. The band were very well received and everyone had a great time.
After performing I then went to the Newcastle Magic Circle Christmas Dinner. I bought a ticket prior to the evening despite the fact that I knew I would be working and asked them to put a meal aside for me which I consumed as quietly as I could during the first act. There were 3 acts including Ward Allen (ventriloquist) and Martyn James and Co. (comedy illusions). The main act this year however was the fantastic Graham P. Jolley who, due to circumstances beyond his control, ended up having to start at 00:15. a whole hour after he was billed to go on. Graham was as good as ever though and everyone really enjoyed his performance, despite the late start.
Anyway, that was my first blog. I'm off to get ready for December!!!
